Under the Night Sky
The moon was shining. The stars speckled the dark night sky. A cool breeze was blowing and it carried her fragrance to me. We were sitting on the roof. She rested her head on my shoulder and we were both clocking the sky. The night was so quite that I could hear her heartbeats. Her muffled lub-dubs. Her hand was in mine; fingers interlocked. With my toes, I played with hers.
“How long will you be gone?” she asked, knowing that it would be a long time.
“Maybe a year or two,” I replied. I added, “Don’t worry… I will be yours and you’ll be mine, no matter how far we stay, no matter how long.” Her fingers clenched mine.
I turned towards her and placed my lips on her forehead. She was everything I needed. Everything I had ever dreamt of. I wrapped my hand around her waist and held her tightly against me. I examined her fingers under the faint moon-light. They were slender and beautiful.
“It’s beautiful isn’t it?” she said, looking at the moon. Yes, it was; bright and beautiful; glowing in the dark sky. Even in the midst of such darkness, it glowed. Only if we could have such brightness in our own lives…
“I will miss you,” I said.
“I will miss you too. You’ll keep calling won’t you?” her eyes tried to delve into my mind.
“Of course I will,” I looked towards her. Her eyes elated me. We looked at each other, and kept looking. As if the silence of the night had enchanted us. I tried to take in all of her pulchritude. “I love you,” I felt the words leaving my lips, almost subconsciously.
“I love you too,” she whispered back.
She was beautiful; her eyes, her nose, her lips… I leaned towards her; and she towards me. Our lips touched… and we were lost in that silent night…
We were happy, for we were with each other; and sad, for we won’t be so for the next couple of years… For every day there’s a night waiting; for every dawn there’s dusk. But we will be together again… and for every night there’s a day. Life is made of days and nights. Happiness lies in falling in love with both.
